DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School diploma or higher; posses and maintains a current commercial driver’s license with school bus and passenger endorsement; interpersonal relations skills; knowledge of routing procedures; aptitude or competence for responsibilities of transportation operations; excellent health; administrative skills.

 

DESIRED SKILLS:  Diesel Mechanic certification would be a bonus and elevate rate of pay.

 

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent

 

JOB GOAL:  To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the school district.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Conforms to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation and submits required state reports in timely fashion.

 

  1. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventative safety.

 

  1. Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release.

 

  1. Advises superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.

 

  1. Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning special school trips.

 

  1. Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.

 

  1. Prepare bus routes for all schools in the district.

 

  1. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.

 

  1. Assists with preparing and administering the transportation budget.

 

  1. Maintains all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventative maintenance.

 

  1. Prepares transportation payroll and personnel report monthly.

 

  1. Completes and dispatches accident reports as required.

 

  1. Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.

 

  1. Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.

 

  1. Develops recommendations for future transportation needs, including equipment and personnel based on annual surveys.

 

  1. Maintains a current district record system indicating appropriate parts inventory, service/maintenance records, and fuel usage.

 

  1. Assists with mechanic work when necessary.

 

  1. Other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Twelve-month employee working approximately 261 days per year.  Salary set by the Superintendent and the Board of Education. 

 

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with School Board Policy.
