CUSTODIAN
QUALIFICATIONS: Be clean, neat and professional; high school diploma or equivalent; good health; possess the initiative to work steadily and effectively without immediate supervision; be able to communicate effectively with others; be able to lift at least 75 pounds as an essential job requirement with minimum physical requirements including lifting, standing, sitting, squatting, walking, working while lying on back and side, in close quarters, or high elevations.
REPORTS TO: Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal and Director of Facilities
JOB GOAL: To perform custodial work required for the routine cleaning and upkeep of building and grounds. Receive and follow instructions as directed by Lead Custodian for building, and/or Building Principal, Director of Facilities, and/or Superintendent.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a confidential and professional nature of all school related matters.
- Use supplies that are provided by the school district for cleaning and disinfecting.
- Mop, sweep, and scrub floors and other surfaces.
- Clean and renew floor surface finishes as directed.
- Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim and related furnishings.
- Wash and/or clean windows and door glass.
- Clean, disinfect and service lavatories and restroom facilities daily.
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains daily.
- Clean chalkboards regularly.
- Clean and wax furniture.
- Clean all interior glass including partitions, framed pictures, windows, doors, etc.
- Remove trash and debris from all classrooms, hallways, offices and other rooms daily, collect and place in containers for removal by truck, debris removed from buildings.
- Comply with all regulations and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Move furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
- Put up/down tables in cafeteria when necessary.
- Attend all in service trainings as scheduled.
- Perform minor maintenance repairs and replacement, inform the Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal of additional needed repairs by Building Maintenance personnel.
- Report to work on inclement weather days to keep walkways, steps and hallways in safe condition by shoveling, scraping, cleaning and using cleaning materials.
- Check daily to see that the doors to the building are unlocked and/or locked at the proper time to ensure building safety.
- Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, tools and other needed items.
- Report immediately to the Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal any damage to school property.
- Promptly reports major repairs to the Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal.
- Request and heed the advice of the Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal, Director of Facilities, and/or Superintendent.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal, Director of Facilities, and/or Superintendent.
- Work with the Principal and/or other Administration to solve any problem which arises concerning building upkeep in a positive and productive manner.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days. Salary, work year, and building assignment to be determined as established by Board.
VACATION DAYS: Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day (2 days),
Christmas (2 days), New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday – Unless School Scheduled, Memorial Day
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
